How To Slow Down And Still Magically Get Sh*t Done

If you feel like you're always rushing — even when there's no need — this simple shift will help you reconnect with your natural feel-good rhythm.

I used to walk REALLY fast.

Even on a quiet Sunday morning, I had to ‘get there, and get there fast.’

I was so used to living in mega-cities (Shanghai big) that a fast pace was the norm to me. I was wired for speed.

But it wasn’t just about walking.

It was a constant go-go hustle energy that shaped how I did everything.

And one thing really bothered me…

I was always late.

And beyond the obvious (like being disrespectful to someone’s time), it left me flustered, forgetting things, arriving out of breath, scattered.

Always rushing. Never fully relaxed. (I feel anxious just writing this now.)

If you’ve lived in that constant state of rush, you know how deeply it drains you.

The Myth of Hustle as the Norm

I used to think hustle was my natural pace — until I began doing body-based practices, and remembered what my actual rhythm feels like.

I began shifting small things:

  • Walking slower

  • Taking my time to get ready

  • Having a slow breakfast instead of coffee on the go

  • Putting on body cream like self-love, instead of slapping it on just to get it done.

  • Walking to a meeting instead of arriving frazzled from a cab ride and traffic jam.

And it changed everything.

The Deeper Roots of Rushing (and a little back story)

I remember being little, hearing my grandma rush down the stairs — off to work, to the store — always in a hurry. She had to get back and care for my grandpa, whose health required constant support.

Sometimes, slowing down is a luxury.

But where you can carve out even the smallest pockets of slowness and presence — it matters.

If you grew up in a fast-paced or high-pressure environment, that doesn't mean it's where you thrive.

It just means you adapted.

And when adaptation becomes your normal, you forget what your real rhythm feels like.

Yes, our bodies are resilient — they’ll keep up.

But what's the cost?

Nervous system dysregulation. Exhaustion. Disconnection.

That’s not worth it.

‘Find Your Feel-Good Rhythm’ Practice

Pick ONE simple daily activity you’re going to engage with without rushing.

Do it at a slower pace than your usual.

Move slower than you normally would.
Pour intention and presence into it.

Examples:

  • Peeling veggies for dinner

  • Doing the dishes

  • Brushing your teeth

  • Doing your skincare

  • Folding laundry

Let your body lead.

This simple shift tunes you back into your optimal rhythm — the one that feels like YOU.

So you can engage with life in a way that feels delicious and nurturing.

You’ll get things done just the same — minus the frantic energy.

Bonus: Pick Your Mirror

Having people or examples in your life who already embody a gentler, slower, more rooted way of living can be a powerful amplifier.

They remind you to soften, release the grip, and pause to really breathe.

Look around:
Is there someone who inspires you in that way?

(If it’s not a person, it might be your cat, wild animals, plants, any living being that is Nature herself.)

For me, my partner has been my greatest inspiration for living with more presence and groundedness. Witnessing how he moves through life, the way he manages stress and work overload, invited me into a gentler, more nature-like pace.

One I didn’t realize I craved.

Your Rhythm = Your Magic

Slowing down isn’t about laziness.
It’s about alignment.
